Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews successfully extinguished a devastating blaze at Cessnock on the night of 9 December 2024, with two units completely destroyed in the incident.
More than 22 firefighters, supported by six fire trucks, responded to multiple Triple Zero (000) calls about the fire on Dixon Street at approximately 10.45 pm. Upon arrival, firefighters found two units on the first and second storeys of a two-level residence engulfed in flames. Swift action saw the fire brought under control and extinguished within 45 minutes.
The incident prompted the evacuation of 21 residents, with four individuals transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics for treatment. The remaining residents were safely evacuated, and no further injuries were reported.
FRNSW concluded operations at the site just after 1.00 am, handing over the scene to NSW Police for further examination. Specialist fire investigators from FRNSW, along with NSW Police forensics, are set to return to the site today to determine the cause of the fire.
