Blaze in Aberdare: Firefighters Rescue Two as House Goes Up in Flames

today15 November 2024

Background

newy.com.au – Firefighters have rescued two people from a home engulfed in flames on Greta Street, Aberdare, near Cessnock this morning. The blaze, which saw more than 30 firefighters and ten fire trucks deployed to the scene, was reported just after 9 am, following multiple emergency calls from concerned locals.

Arriving to find the single-level home already heavily involved, firefighters made an urgent entry to rescue two trapped residents while two others managed to evacuate independently. All four individuals were treated by paramedics on-site, receiving oxygen therapy before being transported to hospital for further care.

The fire, believed to have been intensified by venting LPG cylinders on the side of the building, led to a partial structural collapse, increasing the risk to emergency crews. Firefighters initially worked from within the building but were later forced to withdraw to safer positions due to the hazardous conditions. Crews are now focused on mopping up remaining hotspots, utilising an aerial ladder pumper to tackle the fire from above.

With significant roof damage and ongoing safety concerns, crews have commenced a rotation system to manage the intense workload. Fire investigators are expected to begin examining the site once the fire is fully extinguished and the area is declared safe. Further updates are expected once more information becomes available.

This is an evolving situation, so we’ll update this article soon.
