newy.com.au – Motorists are being urged to plan ahead for significant traffic disruptions on the New England Highway at Tarro and surrounding roads due to ongoing work for the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace. Construction activities will impact the area between Monday, 4 November and Friday, 8 November, with nighttime closures in place to minimise disruptions during peak travel hours.

Nightly Closures and Detours From Tuesday, 5 November to Friday, 8 November, between 7pm and 5am, the eastbound off-ramp from the New England Highway to Anderson Drive will be closed. A detour will be in place via New England Highway and Maitland Road, weather permitting.

During the same hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights, the westbound slip lane from John Renshaw Drive will be shut down. Traffic will be rerouted through Weakleys Drive to John Renshaw Drive and the M1 Motorway. However, this detour is unsuitable for certain oversized vehicles operating under the SPV Level networks. Operators of these vehicles will be escorted through the closures as needed.

Oversized Vehicle Requirements Transport operators of oversize or over mass vehicles exceeding specified width limitations are advised to contact the project team at 0423 323 946 at least 24 hours prior to travelling. Failure to do so may result in considerable delays. It is crucial that permit holders stick to approved routes listed in their travel permits unless alternate arrangements are cleared with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Ongoing Daytime and Night Work Major construction will continue across the project site during regular hours from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from 8am to 5pm. Additional out-of-hours work will occur overnight from Monday to Friday. This will involve lane closures, temporary speed reductions to 40km/h, and intermittent traffic stoppages at several critical locations:

  • M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
  • John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
  • New England Highway at Tarro
  • Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae
  • Old Punt Road near the Pacific Highway at Tomago

Daytime Disruptions Daytime work between 7am and 5pm will also impact Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill, Old Punt Road near Tomago, and the eastbound lanes of the New England Highway at Tarro.

Advice to Motorists Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time, adhere to reduced speed limits, and follow instructions from traffic controllers and signage throughout the affected areas. Transport for NSW extends its gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding.
