An incident occurred at Birubi Beach in Anna Bay today where a young girl was hospitalised after being struck by a vehicle. Emergency services were called to the scene around midday on Sunday, 6 October 2024.
Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended the location, finding that a seven-year-old girl had been hit by a four-wheel drive. NSW Ambulance paramedics quickly treated the child at the scene before she was transported to hospital for further care, suffering leg injuries.
The driver, a woman who was behind the wheel at the time of the incident, was also taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
The circumstances surrounding how the accident occurred are currently under investigation by Police, and inquiries are ongoing.
Community members are urged to remain cautious in shared recreational areas like beaches to ensure the safety of all visitors, especially young children.
Birubi Beach is part of the expansive Stockton Beach, which stretches approximately 32 kilometres from the southern end of Stockton to Anna Bay. It is also the gateway to the famous Stockton Sand Dunes, which are popular for recreational activities such as four-wheel driving, sandboarding, and camel rides.
