A brief scare occurred at Rydges Hunter Valley on Sunday evening when emergency services responded to reports of a structure fire. However, it was quickly determined that the smoke had originated from the kitchen of the Redsalt Restaurant.

Fire & Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service arrived on the scene and used fans to clear the smoke from the building. Gas detectors were deployed to ensure the area was safe, and staff and guests were temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure.

“The incident was caused by a kitchen issue that triggered the fire alarm system, shutting down the exhaust making the smoke situation worse,” said a staff member. “As a safety precaution, we evacuated the hotel.”

A hire car driver, described the scene as chaotic. “There were so many emergency vehicles,” he said. “It was a bit scary, but the quick response from the authorities was reassuring.”

Social media users shared their experiences and expressed relief that the incident was not more serious. One commenter, Sharon Lodge, joked, “I’m sitting out here in the gutter waiting to go back in and finish my shift!”

While the initial reports may have caused concern, the incident was successfully managed by emergency services, and the hotel is now operating normally.
