Emergency services were called to the intersection of Minmi Road and Awabakal Road, Fletcher, around 11:00am on Saturday, 5 October 2024, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Fire and Rescue NSW Wallsend were first on the scene and observed a yellow HSV utility that had sustained significant damage after colliding with a tree. Initial reports indicated that the driver was trapped, but upon arrival, crews found that the 43-year-old male driver had managed to extricate himself from the vehicle.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the driver on site before transporting him to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

The crash caused minor traffic disruptions in the area as emergency services worked to clear the scene. Newcastle City Police District said they are still conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
