Do you know an exceptional woman in the Maitland community whose efforts deserve recognition? Nominations are now open for the 2025 Maitland Local Woman of the Year award, giving residents a chance to celebrate the achievements of local women who have made significant contributions to their community.
The award, organised by Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison MP, seeks to honour women from all walks of life who have positively impacted the Maitland region. The winner will be chosen from a pool of nominees representing a diverse range of professions, volunteer work, and leadership roles.
“Local women in Maitland continue to inspire us with their dedication and contributions, and this award is one way we can give back to those who give so much to our community,” said Ms Aitchison.
Nominations are open until 25 October 2024, and can be submitted via the Member for Maitland’s official website. The award celebrates women who serve their communities through business, volunteer work, sports, and various other fields, acknowledging their critical role in shaping the community’s future.
The 2024 award recipient, Evelyn Stonham, was honoured for her lifelong commitment to Maitland’s local football scene and her ongoing work with the Maitland Junior Football Club, Newcastle Jets, and Northern NSW Football. Her recognition is a testament to the kind of local heroes the award aims to celebrate.
Next year’s nominees will be invited to a special ceremony in March 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day, where the winner will be announced. Past recipients include Michelle Davis, Amorelle Dempster, and Tara Dever, each recognised for their outstanding contributions to the Maitland community.
Ms Aitchison emphasised the importance of the awards, saying, “We are so fortunate to have many talented, passionate women here in Maitland. Whether through their professional achievements, community service, or volunteer work, these women are truly the backbone of our community.”
