Musicians, venues, and live music enthusiasts in Lake Macquarie are being called upon to participate in the newly launched Lake Mac Live and Local initiative. This exciting program aims to revitalize the region’s live music scene by bringing together local artists, venues, and businesses to collaborate and create new opportunities.
The program will kick off with an Industry Forum, facilitated by the Live Music Office, on Monday, 14 October 2024, from 6pm to 9pm at the Warners Bay Theatre, baramayiba. The event will serve as a platform for musicians, bands, venue owners, and even businesses interested in hosting live music to share ideas and explore ways to activate various spaces across Lake Macquarie.
One of the key aspects of Lake Mac Live and Local is the creation of a Lake Macquarie Creative Business Directory, which will link local musicians with venues and organisers. This directory is designed to help foster connections, making it easier for live music events to be booked and promoted throughout the area.
Jacqui Hemsley, Manager of Arts, Culture, and Tourism at Lake Macquarie City Council, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that it not only supports local talent but also helps improve performance spaces within the community.
“The Lake Macquarie Live and Local program offers a fantastic opportunity for our local artists and venues to work together to strengthen the local music industry,” Ms Hemsley said. “It also allows us to look at developing policies that will better support live music in the region.”
Anyone interested in attending the forum or joining the new Creative Business Directory can register via arts.lakemac.com.au.
The Live and Local initiative is being delivered by Lake Macquarie City Council in partnership with the Live Music Office and APRA AMCOS. As part of this national best-practice program, the initiative will include not just the industry forum, but also professional development workshops, micro-music festivals, and support for improved regulatory measures to sustain and grow the local music scene.
