Raptor Squad officers have arrested a man linked to the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) following a violent incident at a licenced venue in Merewether last month.
Police were called to a premises on Morgan Street around 11pm on Saturday, 14 September 2024, after reports surfaced of multiple men being assaulted.
Witnesses told officers that an unknown man had launched an unprovoked attack on two men, aged 19 and 20, delivering forceful blows to their heads before fleeing the scene. Both victims sustained injuries to their mouths and faces but declined medical treatment.
The State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad swiftly took over the investigation, leading to the execution of a search warrant at a home in Merewether at around 6am this morning, Wednesday, 2 October 2024. During the search, police seized personal and electronic items believed to have been used in the assault.
A 47-year-old man, suspected of being an associate of the Hells Angels OMCG, was arrested at the residence and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.
The man has been granted conditional bail and is set to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, 31 October 2024.
