Man Charged with Murder Following Woman’s Death in Pokolbin

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in the Hunter Valley, with police continuing their investigation into the incident.

At approximately 6:10 pm on Friday, 27 September 2024, emergency services were called to a property on Coulson Road, Pokolbin, following concerns for the welfare of a resident. Upon arrival, officers from the Hunter Valley Police District discovered a 46-year-old woman with severe injuries. Despite efforts by paramedics at the scene, the woman could not be revived.

The woman’s identity is yet to be formally confirmed. However, she is believed to be in her 40s.

Detectives from the Hunter Valley Police District quickly established a crime scene and launched an investigation under Strike Force Stockport to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Following inquiries, a 47-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken into custody at Cessnock Police Station.

The man has since been charged with murder (domestic violence-related) and has been refused bail. He is set to appear before Newcastle Local Court today, 28 September 2024.

This tragic event has left the local community in shock as the investigation continues. Police are urging anyone with further information to come forward as inquiries remain ongoing.
