Background

Singleton has received a major boost in fire and emergency response with the arrival of a state-of-the-art $470,000 Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) truck. The new vehicle, a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFs) Class 2 Pumper, is now part of the Hunter Valley fleet, bringing cutting-edge firefighting technology to the region.

The CAFs truck is designed to handle a variety of fire scenarios, from structural blazes to chemical spills, petrol fires, and grass fires. One of its key features is the ability to use up to five times less water compared to conventional firefighting equipment, making it highly efficient in areas that often experience water shortages.

Gary Barber, FRNSW Area Commander, highlighted the truck’s advanced capabilities, noting that the new appliance can respond to a wide range of emergencies. “This pumper is versatile and robust, capable of managing everything from regional structure fires to heavy vehicle crashes. It’s a valuable addition that will strengthen our response in the Singleton community,” said Chief Superintendent Barber.

Minister for Emergency Services, Jihad Dib, emphasised the importance of such investments for regional NSW. “This new truck gives our firefighters in Singleton the tools they need to act quickly and effectively during emergencies. It also helps conserve water, which is critical in dry conditions,” Minister Dib explained.

With the arrival of this new truck, Singleton’s firefighters are now better equipped to handle the region’s diverse emergency needs. The CAFs system, which combines foam concentrate with compressed air, improves fire suppression while reducing the amount of smoke produced, enhancing both safety and effectiveness during firefighting operations.

The addition of the CAFs truck is expected to make a significant impact on how emergency services tackle incidents in Singleton and surrounding areas, ensuring a faster, more efficient response for years to come.
