Hexham Straight Widening: Weekly Traffic Update for Maitland Road 20/9/2024
today20 September 2024
Motorists are advised that traffic conditions near Hexham will change next week as ongoing work for the Hexham Straight Widening project continues.
To reduce the impact on traffic, work will take place from 7pm to 5am.
Sunday 22 September and Monday 23 September: Contraflow systems will be set up on Maitland Road for both directions of traffic between Ironbark Creek Bridge and the Newcastle Inner City Bypass. There will be no right turn into the bypass. A detour will be in place via Wallsend Road, about 800 metres towards Newcastle. This detour will not impact outbound traffic from Newcastle on Maitland Road.
Tuesday 24 September and Wednesday 25 September: Contraflow systems will again be used for inbound and outbound traffic on Maitland Road between Old Maitland Road and Shamrock Street, Hexham.
Throughout the work zone, daytime speed limits will remain at 60km/h, reducing to 40km/h during night works.
Operators of oversize or overmass vehicles with a ground contact of more than 3.2 metres or an overall width greater than 4.5 metres should contact the project team at least one day prior to moving through the area by calling 1800 515 141. Significant delays may result from failing to give advance notice.
Vehicles operating under a permit must adhere to the approved route listed in their permit, and no deviations are allowed unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
Major work will continue during standard hours, from 7am to 6pm on weekdays. Out-of-hours work will take place from 7pm to 7am, Sunday to Thursday, and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.
Motorists are encouraged to follow signage and directions from traffic controllers, take alternative routes where possible, or allow an extra 15 minutes for travel.
Transport for NSW appreciates your patience during these essential construction works.
