A 12-year-old boy has been hospitalised after a collision involving his bicycle and a car in New Lambton this morning.
Emergency services were called to St James Road shortly after 8:35 am following reports of an accident near a local primary school and the Adamstown railway gates. Upon arrival, police were informed that a cyclist and a car had collided.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the boy at the scene for multiple injuries, including a suspected broken leg. He was stabilised before being transported to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.
The driver of the car underwent a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result.
Police from the Newcastle-Hunter Traffic and Highway Patrol Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. As part of their inquiries, they are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The incident caused temporary traffic disruptions, with police closing one eastbound lane of St James Road. The lane has since been reopened, and normal traffic conditions have resumed.
Residents and motorists are reminded to exercise caution on the roads, especially in areas near schools and during peak traffic times.
