Toronto Building Fire

today15 September 2024

Background

An abandoned two-story building in Toronto, Lake Macquarie, was engulfed by fire on Sunday afternoon, prompting a significant emergency response.

Police, Paramedics and Firefighting Units rushed to Victory Parade shortly after midday. The alarm was raised by multiple Triple 0 calls.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the derelict structure fully ablaze and immediately commenced efforts to control the fire. Thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing over Lake Macquarie, drawing attention from the local community.

Authorities have confirmed that the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and there are no reports of injuries. Due to the presence of asbestos in the building materials, police have closed off the surrounding area to ensure public safety.

A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW noted that the fire spread rapidly through the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
