Summerland Point, NSW – Fire crews were called late last night to a boat fire off Kullaroo Road, Summerland Point. The incident, which began at 10:55pm, saw multiple Rural Fire Brigades responding alongside Fire and Rescue NSW.

Wallarah Rural Fire Brigade’s Fire Boat Alpha arrived on the scene, joining forces with Gwandalan/Summerland Point Rural Fire Brigade, Lake Munmorah Rural Fire Brigade, and Fire and Rescue Doyalson. The crews were faced with a fully alight vessel still moored on the lake.

After coordinating efforts from both water and shore, Wallarah crews used the boat’s monitor to combat the fire before switching to a hose line once it was safe to come alongside. Despite the best efforts of all teams involved, the extent of the damage led to part of the vessel burning down to the waterline, causing it to take on water and eventually sink.

Crews marked the location of the sunken vessel with an anchor and fender, providing GPS coordinates for future retrieval. A salvage operation is expected to take place in coordination with authorities.

Boaters in the area have been advised to remain cautious, as the submerged vessel is still attached to its mooring.
