A woman has tragically died following a two-vehicle collision in Bishops Bridge, approximately 6km west of Maitland, on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Old Maitland Road around 2:15 pm on Monday, 2 September 2024, following reports of a serious crash. Upon arrival, police found that an SUV and a utility vehicle had collided, resulting in the driver of the SUV becoming trapped.
The driver of the SUV, a woman believed to be in her 40s, sadly passed away at the scene. Her identity is yet to be confirmed. The driver of the utility, a man in his 30s, along with his two young passengers, aged one and six, were transported to John Hunter Hospital. Their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
A crime scene has been established, and officers from the Hunter Valley Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Old Maitland Road remains closed between Majors Lane and Boundary Road, and motorists are advised to avoid the area as delays are expected to continue for several hours.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
