A strong burning smell that had been gradually intensifying at Marketown West, where Coles is located,  this led to an emergency response on Sunday night.

At approximately 9pm, Coles staff contacted NSW Fire and Rescue to report the issue, concerned about the increasingly pungent odour. In response, three fire appliances, including a ladder truck and two fire engines, were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters noticed the smoke’s smell from outside the shopping centre, which was significantly more intense within the building. After a thorough inspection, they traced the source to a pan of bread had been left unattended, causing it to burn.

The firefighters quickly switched off the oven, ventilated the area, and ensured the premises were safe.

No injuries were reported, and the situation was resolved. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of kitchen safety, even in commercial settings.
