In the early hours of this morning, VRA Rescue Cessnock responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Sawyers Gully Road, Sawyers Gully. The incident, which occurred at 2:59 am, involved a single vehicle that had left the roadway and collided with a house, leaving one person trapped inside.
Upon arriving at the scene, rescue personnel found the vehicle resting against the structure with the driver still inside. The rescue team quickly set up lighting and stabilised the vehicle to ensure the safety of both the occupant and the surrounding area. Hydraulic rescue tools were then deployed to remove the driver-side doors and B-pillar, allowing for easier access to the trapped individual.
Working closely with medical staff, the volunteers carefully extricated the driver, who was placed onto a spine board and transported to the awaiting ambulance for further treatment.
In addition to the vehicle rescue, the squad also took steps to support the structural integrity of the damaged house. Temporary supports were installed to stabilise the building until repairs can be undertaken.
The Cessnock District Rescue Squad praised the teamwork and dedication of its volunteers during this challenging operation. The situation remains under review as authorities assess the extent of the damage to the property.
