Australia Post has launched a new fleet of 175 electric motorbikes, part of the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, safety, and innovative delivery solutions. Manufactured by UBCO Electric Utility Bikes, these new motorbikes are being deployed nationwide, including Edgeworth in Lake Macquarie, marking the first rollout of this type in the Australia Post network.
The UBCO bikes can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h and are designed to handle routes previously challenging for three-wheel electric delivery vehicles (eDVs). The inclusion of Edgeworth in this rollout highlights Australia Post’s strategy of enhancing service in both urban and regional areas.
With the country’s largest electric delivery fleet of over 5,100 vehicles already in operation, the addition of these motorbikes is set to further reduce emissions, lower operational costs, and enhance the efficiency of postal deliveries. The bikes are equipped with advanced safety features such as LED lighting, reflective side panels, and an electric drive system, ensuring stability and control on various road conditions.
Australia Post CEO and Managing Director, Paul Graham, emphasised that this move is a significant step toward achieving Australia Post’s broader environmental goals. “This new fleet allows us to electrify a broader spectrum of routes, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and further advancing our sustainability goals,” Mr Graham said.
The electric motorbikes also contribute to quieter and cleaner operations, reducing noise and air pollution in communities like Edgeworth. The deployment in this region aligns with Australia Post’s broader efforts to improve local delivery services while maintaining a focus on environmentally responsible practices.
Edgeworth residents can expect to see these new motorbikes in operation starting next month as Australia Post integrates them into their delivery network across the area.
The new fleet is part of a broader electrification plan that also includes electric pushbikes, eDVs, and trucks, reinforcing Australia Post’s position as a leader in sustainable logistics across the country.
