A 29-year-old man is set to face court today after being charged with several break and enter offences across Rutherford and Maitland.
Between Sunday 21 July and Monday 5 August 2024, police from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District received multiple reports of break and enters at Walka Grange Lifestyle Village on Waterworks Road, Rutherford.
Following further investigations, officers looked into a separate incident on Sunday 11 August 2024, where a break and enter occurred at a residence on Ballard Street, Maitland. During this incident, a wallet, keys, and cards were allegedly stolen.
As a result of extensive inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a property on the New England Highway in Rutherford on Sunday 18 August 2024. During the search, officers seized a number of items believed to be linked to the alleged break-ins.
The investigation led to the arrest of the man in Rutherford at around 6:20 PM yesterday (Monday 19 August 2024). He was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with three counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – people there, two counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – armed, and robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
The man was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Maitland Local Court today (Tuesday 20 August 2024).
