Newcastle, NSW – A search warrant was executed as part of an ongoing investigation into the illegal use of trail bikes on Newcastle roads. About 1:30pm yesterday (Tuesday, 6 August 2024), police from Newcastle City Police District attended a home on Charlton Street, Lambton.
A subsequent search of the home allegedly revealed two unregistered trail bikes, which police believe had been used illegally on nearby roads and parks. The two trail bikes, along with several other items of interest, were seized by police and will undergo forensic examination.
Inquiries into the illegal use of trail bikes on Newcastle roads are ongoing. This investigation highlights the ongoing issues of unregistered and illegal trail bike use in the area, which poses significant safety risks to both riders and the public.
The problem of illegal trail bike riding has been a persistent issue in Newcastle, particularly in suburban areas where riders often trespass on public parks and private properties. Local authorities have been working to address the problem through increased patrols and community awareness campaigns.
Residents have expressed concerns over the noise and danger posed by these illegal activities. “It’s really disruptive and unsafe,” said a local Lambton resident. “We often see these bikes speeding through our streets and parks, putting everyone at risk.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage that might assist police in their inquiries to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously, and all reports are treated in strict confidence.
As the investigation continues, police are reminding the community of the importance of adhering to road rules and the potential consequences of illegal activities. Unregistered and illegal trail bike use not only endangers the rider but also pedestrians, other road users, and property.
