WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ALERT: The man who allegedly tried to lure a nine year old towards his vehicle was spotted by a Newcastle Registered Nurse. He was sitting outside the Hunter Performing Arts School at Broadmeadow. The nurse took the photo below. He was allegedly abusing people with a skeleton in the front seat of his second car. His first car now has flat tyres because he left it on on a main street overnight. Twenty minutes later he relocated to Hamilton Public School. In the image below, taken by the registered nurse. Someone was standing beside the car which was edited out. Today’s update was sparked from an already viral Facebook post by the known registered nurse so Newy 87.8 re-published it here as a community alert.
Police are investigating.

Lake Macquarie Police District is investigating reports of a man allegedly attempting to lure children towards his car with hand gestures in the Belmont area. Belmont Public School issued a warning to parents and guardians after one of their students was approached outside his home over the weekend by a man trying to coax him towards his vehicle.
According to the alert from Belmont Public School, the car was later seen near parks and sports grounds in Belmont, Belmont North, and Belmont South. The vehicle is described as having multiple colours, possibly including signage or a company logo, with a base colour of white or silver. The man in the car is described as an older male wearing high-visibility clothing.
Belmont Public School commended the student for remembering the ‘stranger danger’ lessons from child protection classes and immediately reporting the incident to a parent. The school is reinforcing this important safety message with all students.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District have commenced an investigation following an incident at Belmont about 4pm on Sunday, 4 August 2024. Police have been told that a vehicle stopped out the front of a home before the driver signalled to a child in the front yard to come towards him. The child, a nine-year-old boy, ran inside the property to inform an adult who subsequently contacted police.
As inquiries into the incident continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
In addition to the official statements, images of the car, and the alleged man’s face has been posted widely across a number of local community facebook groups in the Hunter.
Parents are urged to remind their children about the dangers of talking to strangers and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police immediately.
