Or you may have seen him on Snapchat Maps, showing off the stories he has written in the Newcastle Library, or in JB HIFI? Who is this guy? Well his name is Adam Wood, a loved Newcastle local. Scott Berry from scottberryfilms.com has created this beautiful video which was featured in the Real Film Festival of this very cool and mysterious guy.
Adam Wood, often seen wandering around Newcastle and Charlestown, is a unique and intriguing figure known for his poetry and artistic expressions. He frequently performs spontaneous poetry recitations and writes short stories on public computers in local stores. For many locals, he has become a recognisable character, in the past he has been seen in a Spider-Man suit or Joker makeup, adding a distinctive flair to his public appearances.
Despite facing mental health challenges, Adam is celebrated for his creativity and kindness. He engages with the community not just through his art but also by interacting with people, challenging them to games of chess at Charlestown Square. His work has garnered attention, with some describing him as a “mad sketch artist” who blends his performances with quirky, often surreal dialogue.
