The Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union (NHRU) is looking to level the playing field next season by introducing a new player points system (PPS). In a bid to stamp out the volume of overseas imports as well as player movement, the NHRU will issue all Premier One players with a point value between 0 and 15.

The player’s point value will depend on their history at the club, along with their representative background. A cap of 28 points per game has been set for 2015, with repercussions in place for teams that exceed the limit. The PPS also forces clubs to place greater emphasis on developing their juniors,
with the aim of nurturing those players through to the senior level.
