Hello Newcastle! This is your weekend, my name is Renee and i’m outside The Edwards Bar in Newcastle West which will host the launch of the annual `This is not art` festival. The festival will be held this Thursday to Sunday and is a national celebration of new media and arts. The festival began in 1998 and has grown to become a leading independent contemporary arts festival in Australia. The festival is run by `Octapod` which is a non-profit organisation that supports the Arts community in Newcastle. There is a HUGE schedule of events which can be found on the Octapod website.

Now on to the Mattara Festival which is on every day this week and ends this Monday with the `Shannons Mattara Hill Climb`. Take in the spectacular views from King Edward Park as you watch The Hunter’s most exciting motorsport event. Information on the the Mattara Website.

Also this week, `Renew Newcastle` who are responsible for breathing life into empty buildings in our CBD will host their `Spring City Walk` this Thursday! The event starts at 5pm with after work drinks then a `free guided tour` of their creative spaces will kick off at 5:30. Discover their vibrant and creative community as you are offered tasty treats along the way.

and on Saturday the inaugural `Hunter Runners Ball` will be held at `Newcastle Jockey Club` to celebrate the strong running community in our region and acknowledge athletes, mentors and volunteers. Tickets include a 3 course meal with the opportunity to win some fantastic prices. Check out the runners ball website for more info.

Now for some music! This Friday, Missy Higgins will perform at the Civic Theatre to launch her new album `Oz`. Newcastle is very lucky to host her on her very limited national tour. She has proudly announced the upcoming birth of her first baby due in January, so a massive congratulations.

and on Saturday, `Mental as anything` will perform at Lizottes. The group started as a student band but went on to release a solid stream of hit records through the 80’s and have rocked the charts around the world including Germany and Canada, Secure your tickets on
the Lizotte’s website.

and finally this Saturday, `Fleetwood Mac` will take you on a 2-Hour `live concert journey` through their timeless classics that span four decades including `Rhiannon`, `Don’t Stop`, `Get your own way`, `Little Lies` and a heap more. They will perform at the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre and tickets are $60.

That’s it from me, my name is Renee, I hope you have a great weekend! See you next time!
